Wish: capture design with fabric background, but not regular background

How does one capture design bitmap (PNG) of an applique design that includes the fabric background but NOT the background of the work space?

My goal is to get the PNG of the design, import it into Photoshop Elements as a layer to display on top of halloween totes. But, to get the background fabric, it also selects the background work area, as such:

I've tried using Capture Bitmap Design as well as the "Export Multi Decoration File", but both have the same result.

It would be nice to have the option to choose between fabric background and work background like this:

Any suggestions or ideas?

Update: I accomplished my goal in Photoshop elements using 1) png of the design w/o the background option selected, and 2) mask layer of the spider fabric backgroung ... but that was a tedious task.

Pascale,

I assume that you want to include the fabric but not background into image...
My Photoshop tip for you (for current version of Wilcom e4):
  1. (if needed,) change background to a colour contrast to your thread colours and fabric
  2. export PNG using Capture Bitmap Design with Included background/fabric selected
  3. Open exported image in Photoshop
  4. use Magic Wand to select background
  5. Hit Delete key to delete background
(if Photoshop won't let you delete the selected area (i.e. background), you might need to unlock the layer first.)
(This should be a bit faster than masking method in Photoshop.)

I like those.

My additional wish on top of Pascale's:
  • ability to export to PSD (Photoshop) format
  • (even better,) all those mentioned background, fabric, and guidelines are in separate layers of PSD files
Thanks.
