is there any way to amend the start/stop positions of a MOTIF COLUMN?

I am designing a quilt block that has very sharp corners joining each other and I want to move the start and stop to the centre of the column but the software only stitches the start/stop at the very ends of the column rather than in the middle where I have placed the start/stop.

I have chosen satin stitch motifs so it would be possible having a run from the centre out and the satin stitch back to the middle so I don't know why the software just doesn't apply the start/stop position where I want it.

It also doesn't give me the option to add underlay to the motif stitches... could that be amended at all to do automatically on the ones in the program, rather than needing to re-digitise it myself with underlay?

Any ideas?
