What versions can read an ESA font created in e4?

I just created my first ESA font and sent it to my friend who uses e3 to see if she can install it. She can't open it, nor can she open motifs I've created. She gets an error message. She says they appear to install and show up on the menus but they are empty.

Is there a way to make these ESA files backward compatible? Or do people need a certain level of the software to use them?

Thanks!

Just to make sure that she does not open ESA font directly (from Windows File Explorer or ES).
Make sure she copied the font to the USERLETW folder under EmbroideryStudio on user's computer. And relaunch EmbroideryStudio.

Thanks for replying.

Yes, she's done that. I sent it to her because she's an experienced user.
